mamabenjyfishy plays Fortnite
‘Playing Fortnite and streaming was not something that I have ever planned or envisaged I would ever do. I first tried playing Fortnite just to see what it was like in Chapter 2 Season 4 at the end of 2020, but only played for a few hours and didn’t get very far so I never pursued it further. I was always busy working and was happy just watching other people play.
At the start of 2021, Benjy started playing chess and was invited to take part in the PogChamps3 Tournament. Benjy reached out to Jon Ludvig Hammer, a Grand Master from Oslo, who is an acquaintance of Johnny’s. I watched Benjy’s daily lessons with Jon Ludvig, which were streamed online. Jon Ludvig is also a keen Fortnite player and occasionally would play Fortnite after the chess lessons. I stayed online to watch his stream. Having only really watched professional players stream it was refreshing to see someone who was not so proficient at playing having a go and just enjoying playing the game without worrying too much about the outcome. This was my inspiration to give Fortnite another go.
I tried to use a keyboard and mouse but that didn’t work for me, as I suffer from Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). So, Benjy lent me a controller and suggested that I tried that. I still found it very confusing because of all the different buttons to switch between but after a while I managed to work out what to press – even if I wasn’t that good at it! I made it my goal to get to the Champion Division in Chapter 2 Season 5 (December 2020 to March 2021) as a solo player. I went on to play some of the solo cash cups playing strategically for placements rather than getting eliminations.’

Streaming on Twitch
‘In March 2021, I decided to start streaming on Twitch. I was nervous when I first started as I wasn’t sure quite what I was doing, and I had to get a lot of help from Benjy. I made the mistake of not having moderators on my channel during my first ever stream! The chat went crazy which was very stressful, but thankfully I managed to rectify this and I now have a fantastic team behind me. I soon became a Twitch Partner and started to stream for around 100 hours a month. By July 2021 I had reached 500k hours watched on my channel. I also stream Fortnite through my Discord group where I go to chat and connect, and play other games.’
‘During Chapter 2 Season 6 (March to June 2021) I teamed up with my duo partner Bella (@igirlybella) who I also trio with, along with a variety of other team-mates. Bella has played an important part in my progress helping and encouraging me to improve along with my moderators Scott (@SC0TTAH) and PhoeniixReii (@LionheartOhMy) who have all become close friends. I enjoy taking part in all the tournaments and my aim is to qualify through the open round of FNCS and to be able to progress further into the tournament, maybe even one day being able to compete against Benjy in the finals!’
Signing with Galaxy Racer Esports (GXR)
‘In September 2021 after competing in the Aubameyang Cup with Bella, GXR offered me the opportunity to join their organisation as a content creator. I became the first mum to sign with an esports organisation which is amazing! I am keen to be a positive role model in the esports community and to encourage more inclusivity and to demonstrate to other parents all the positive aspects of gaming. In the future, I am also looking forward to playing competitively for GXR in various cash cups and FNCS tournaments across multiple regions.’
mamabenjyfishy has released two new books, out now and available in both print and digital formats.
